Explore nursing practical skills among pre-eclamptic mothers

Abstract
Aim: The present study aimed to explore nursing practical skills among pre-eclamptic mothers. Setting: The study was conducted at all inpatient antenatal department units at Ain shams university maternity hospital. Design: A descriptive design was used. Sample: convenient sample included 54 nurses that provide care for pre-eclamptic pregnant mothers. Tools: A structured interviewing questionnaire and likert scale. Results: The present study indicated that the majority of nurses had incorrect knowledge regarding preeclampsia and management of preeclampsia. Consequently this was reflected upon their practical skills so the majority of nurses had incomplete practical skills while providing care of pre-eclamptic mothers .The main barrier that facing nurses due to decreased number of nurses during three shifts per day and some of nurse’s practices done by physicians. Conclusion: Few nurses among the sample had correct knowledge regarding nursing care of pre-eclamptic mothers,and similarly the same result was noticed regarding nursing practical skills provided for pre-eclamptic pregnant mothers. Recommendations: Pre services and in services training program for nurses to enhance their knowledge and practical skills regarding care provided for pre-eclamptic mothers, Brochure and guide lines about preeclampsia must be available at any antenatal clinic to all pre-eclamptic mothers, Maternal and neonatal nursing department in faculty of nursing at Ain Shams University must develops on job training program to enhance nursing knowledge and practical skills which provided for pre-eclamptic mothers and Dissemination of the present study research finding to director and chair person of obstetrics department of Ain shams university maternity hospital.
