Modernity in Katherine Mansfield's Short Stories

Elbanna, Dina;

Abstract

The main objective of this thesis is to reveal the spirit of modern culture, as based on the constant evaluation of the status quo of things for the sake of adaptation, with special reference to the short stories of Katherine Mansfield. This attitude of rebellion and constant questioning is meant to be an assertion of the free will of Katherine Mansfield, the writer and the individual. It can be traced in view of the themes she handled as well as the techniques she adopted. It is also clear in the way she adhered to foreign influences that liberated her on the individual as well as the literary levels.
