Gehan Abd EI-Khalek Ibrahim;

Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the protective role of Verapamil on CCI4 induced changes in both liver and heart of albino rats.
The study included 48 male albino rats weighing 150-200 gm in average. They were divided into 4 equal groups; 12 rats each.
• Group 1: control rats
• Group II: rats were given CCI4 in a daily oral dose
(0.25 mi/Kg) for 4 weeks
• Group Ill: rats were given a daily intra-peritoneal injection of Verapamil (10 mg/Kg) for 4 weeks
• Group IV: rats were given a daily concomitant administration of CCI4 and Verapamil by the same previously given doses and routes for 4 weeks.
The animals were sacrificed. The liver and heart were dissected and processed for histological and histochemical examinations. Paraffin sections were subjected to Hx & E,
Masson's trichrome stains, and PAS reaction.
