Abstract


Variceal hemorrhage is a serious life-threatening complication of portal hypertension with overall mortality rates historically reported as 30-50%. Esophageal variceal bleeding (EVB) is the commonest cause of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) in Egypt. Nursing care is very important during initial period to achieve best possible outcome and have good prognosis for the patient. The role of the critical care nurse regarding caring of patients with EVB is crucial. Therefore it is important to evaluate intensive care nurse’s knowledge, practice and attitude regarding caring of patients with EVB.
Aim of the Study
This study aims to:
Assess nurses, performance regarding patient with esophageal variceal bleeding through the followings:
1- Assessing nurses, level of knowledge regarding care for patient with esophageal variceal bleeding.
2- Assessing nurses, level of practice regarding care for patient with esophageal variceal bleeding.
