Beside the significance of establishing identity, specific identification of the human remains may have legal ramifications in marital, economic, insurance and historical realms. The forensic physical anthropologist can contribute in attempts to establish identity by identifying general biological categories of skeletal remains. Once the general features such as age and sex of the remains has been established, subsequent identification of unique skeletal or dental characters may be matched with existing information to develop a positive identification. The present work was carried out to study certain radiological features of the air sinuses in the skull and to assess their validity in personal identification.
This study included 350 adult patients referred to the Radiology Department of Alexandria Main University Hospital for radiological examination of the skull (plain X-ray and CT) for non-traumatic indications. (A) Plain X-ray radiographs of the skull were carried out for 250 patients.
