Benefits of ANTI-VEGF Therapy for Diabetic Macular Edema with and without Vitreomacular Adhesions

Abstract
Diabetic retinopathy is the most common complication of diabetes and one of the leading causes of preventable blindness. In recent years, intravitreal anti-VEGF agents have emerged as new treatments for DME. However, this is an invasive procedure that can have complications, such as endophthalmitis and retinal detachment. This complications is especially important in diabetic patients in whom long term administration is to be expected.
In our study, Patients were subdivided at baseline according to the SD-OCT assessment of vitreomacular relation in to two groups: DME patients with VMA (VMA+) group; included 15 eyes and DME patients without VMA (VMA-) group; included 15 eyes.
This study was conducted at Research institute of ophthalmology from December 2016 to April 2017. We took the acceptance of ethical comity and all patients had a written consent for the study. All patients were subjected to complete history taking including duration and type of diabetes mellitus, duration of vision deterioration, any presence of past ocular diseases or surgeries including retinal laser or intravitreal injection, and any associated systemic disease other than diabetes like Hypertension, ischemic heart disease, Bleeding tendencies and anticoagulant therapy.
