Occupational Health for Workers in Textile Industry

Abstract


The field of occupational health is broad and covers the prevention of all impairments arising out of employment, work injuries and work-related disorders, including occupational diseases and all aspects relating to the interactions between work and health. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of occupational health program for workers in textile industry in tanta. Setting: The study was conducted at Tanta textile Company. Sample: the study was carried on 81 from 546 workers. Research design: A quasi-experimental research design with pre-post assessment. Tools: for data collection, two tools were used to collect the data, first: Interviewing questionnaire about worker’s knowledge and practice regarding occupational health and first aid, second: Observational checklist of using personal protective equipment & environmental safety and occupational hazard. Results: There was unsafe environment which leaded to many occupational hazards. The study reflected that there were a highly statically differences between pre& post occupational health program related to knowledge about occupational health, it also clarified that workers' knowledge and practices about first-aid, there were clear differences between pre and post educational program in many practices. The observation revealed that a relatively higher personal protective equipment utilization rate was reported compared to pre and post program. The effect of the implemented educational program on the study group's total knowledge, practice scores and use of PPE. It was found that there was a highly statistically significant improvement in their total level of knowledge, practice scores and use of PPE in pre and post occupational health program. Conclusion: The educational program is successful in attaining its aim of positively improving knowledge and practice of the study group about Occupational Health. Recommendation: Occupational Health and Safety program should be conducted and disseminated to raise workers' awareness and reduce the incidence of work related–hazards.
