Evaluation of Outer Retinal Layers Changes Before and After Intervention in Diabetic Macular Edema
Radwa Reda Mohamed;
Abstract
Macular edema (DME) is a major cause of vision loss in patients with diabetes mellitus.It has been accepted that macular edema can develop at all stages of retinopathy.
The pathogenesis of DME is complex and multifactorial. The specific details of pathogenesis of DME are still unclear. Different theories had been reported regarding this point including disruption of blood retinal barrier, altered vitreomacular interface, hypoxia, altered blood flow, retinal ischemia, and inflammation, in addition to the role of ILM which can cause structural changes that promote vitreomacular traction.
