An Egyptian Study for Standardization of Myocardial T1 Mapping Values on a 3 Tesla MRI Machine

Hossam Mohsen Hassan;

Abstract

T1 mapping allows direct in-vivo quantitation of microscopic changes in the myocardium, providing new diagnostic insights into cardiac disease.
This capability introduces a new frontier in cardiovascular imaging, enabling the practitioner/investigator to quantify biologically important properties of both regional and global myocardia.
In this study, we present the current developing clinical applications of cardiac T1 mapping and review the existing evidence on their diagnostic value in various clinical conditions.
Our study included thirty-one subjects; all of whom were subjected to the conventional cardiac MRI examination in addition to the specific sequence used for T1 mapping. Color coded images were obtained, ROI were placed over the 17 myocardial segments to calculate the T1 values; both native and postcontrast values. ECV values were calculated then using a specific equation.
