Effect of Letrozole on Surgically Induced Endometriosis in a Rat Model

Howaida Badr Ibrahim Awad;

Abstract

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent disease affecting up to 10% of women of reproductive age. It is diagnosed in 50% of infertile women with normal ovulation and normospermic parteners (Giudice and Kao, 2004; Ilangavan and Kalu, 2010) and in more than 60% of females with chronic pelvic pain. Letrozole is a third-generation aromatase inhibitor, suppressing local and systematical estrogen production, which plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis and could be used as a treatment modality to avoid surgery.
