Biochemical and Radiological Evaluation of the Effect of Platelet Rich-plasma Gel Application Around Immediately Loaded Dental Implants In Mandibular Overdenture Cases
Yasser Atteya Araby Mohamed;
Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate biochemically and radiographically the effect of application of platelet- rich plasma (PRP) gel during the preparation of future sites of dental implants that were immediately loaded by implant- supported mandibular overdentures.
Ten completely edentulous male patients were selected for this study. Each patient received two midi dental implants of 15mm length and 2.4mm diameter in the intraforaminal region of the mandible using flapless implant surgery.
Autologous PRP gel was applied in one side only of each patient while the other side ofthe patient left as a control one.
After two weeks each patient received mandibular implant-retained overdenture using ball and socket attachments.
Biochemical and radiographic evaluation was carried out for every patient at regular recall appointments up to nine months from time of loading of the implants.
Biochemical evaluation of the implants was performed using the new technique of measuring collagenase-2 level in peri-implant sulcular fluid, while the radiographic evaluation included the use of indirect digital radiographs to measure the marginal bone height and bone density around the implants.
At the end of the study all the implants of both sides were successfully osseointegrated with superiority of side with PRP.
