Abstract

Naringenin, ellagic acid and amygdalin represent plant secondary metabolites that belong to flavonoids, polyphenols and glycosides, respectively. In the current study, a well-known antioxidant ascorbic acid was selected in the antioxidant experiments for comparison with different phytochemicals. Ellagic acid had the highest free radical, superoxide and hydroxyl scavenging activities and was better or comparable to ascorbic acid. All phytochemicals showed moderate total antioxidant capacity compared to ascorbate but ellagic acid was still better than the other two botanicals. The situation
