Chemical Studies on the Development of Different Systems for the Extraction of Some Elements of Nuclear and Industrial Applications

Botros Abdelnaser Masry Tawfik;

Abstract

The main objective of the work presented in this thesis is directed to study the extraction and separation of Pd(II), Mo(VI), Zr(IV) and Nb(V) from nitric acid solution using different organic extractants such as green diesel fuel, CYANEX 471X, CYANEX 923 and Ionquest 801.
Different techniques were employed in this work such as liquid- liquid extraction, emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) and sorption technique. Recovery of these metals from loaded organic solutions using different stripping agents was also carried out.
Based on the obtained results, the extraction and separation of some investigated metals such as palladium from spent catalytic converters and molybdenum from Gattar granite ore was carried out using the used investigated systems. Flow sheets which describe the extraction and stripping processes of these metals are proposed and evaluated.
The work carried out in this thesis is presented in three chapters, namely, introduction, experimental, and as results and discussion.
