Assessment of the Adolescent Females Knowledge and Perception of Reproductive Health in Assiut Governorate

Abstract


Adolescence is the critical second decade of human life that links the vulnerable period of infancy and younger part of childhood to adulthood. It is marked by profound biological and psychological changes.
The present study aimed at determining the level and quality of' knowledge and perception of adolescent girls aged 14 to 19 years about reproductive health, factors influencing their knowledge and perception, as well as the sources of their information.
This work has been conducted in Assiut City including two faculties: the High Institute of Nursing and the Faculty of Physical Education as well as 4 secondary schools: Nursing Secondary School, University Secondary School, Khadiga Yousef Secondary School and Mobarra Nursing Secondary School.
A total of 700 adolescent girls were included in the present study;
200 were personally interviewed by the researcher while 500 were given the self-completed questionnaire).
The main results of the present study were as follows:
• Concerning knowledge scores in relation to anatomy and function of the female reproductive system, about two-thirds of the sample got less than 50%, while only one 5.6% got a score more than 75%.
