STUDY ON POSTERIOR SERO MUSCULAR STRIP EXCISION THROUGH THE POSTERIOR SAGITTAL APPROACH FOR SHORT SEGMENT HIRSCHSPRUNG DISEASE IN PEDIATRIC AGE GROUP

Abstract
Short segment Hirschsprung's disease is one of the frequant cause of outlet obstruction and/ or constipation in infant and children.
This study was undertaken to use a new procedure for anorectal myomectomy through trans sacral approach as a definitive surgical treatment for short segment Hirschsprung's disease.
The material of the current study composed of seven patients with short segment Hirschsprung's disease who were subjected to anorectal myectomy through trans sacral approach.
Our patients were five males and two females with a mean age of
six years.
Constipation was noted in all patients during most of their life period, abdominal distention in 85.71%, recurrent diarrhea in 28.57%. Fivity seven percent with delayed passage of meconium. No other members of the families of our cases were suffering from similar condition. Consanguinity were present in
28.57%, failure to thrive were present in 28.67% of our cases due to recurrent attacks of diarrhea. No other associated congenital anomalies were noted.
All the patients showed increased sphincteric tone on the examining finger with considerable passage of feces following withdrawal of finger.
