Analytical Study of Some Drugs Used in the Treatment of Hypertension

Ragaa Magdy Esmail El-Sayed;

Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the analysis of some drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, namely: Trandolapril, Verapamil, Perindopril, Indapamide, Amlodipine, and Atorvastatin.
The thesis includes six parts:
Part І: Introduction:
This part involves general introduction on the pharmacological background, prevalence, risk factors, complications, and management of hypertension.
Part ІІ: Literature Review:
This part includes structures, physicochemical characters, and different reported methods used for the analysis of the studied drugs.
Part ІІІ: Determination of the Studied Drugs by Spectrophotometric Methods With or Without Chemometric Assistance
Section A: Simultaneous Determination of Trandolapril and Verapamil by Recent Spectrophotometric Methods in Their Zero Order (D0) Spectrum:
This section describes the simultaneous determination of TR and VR in their bulk powder, binary mixture, and pharmaceutical formulation, without prior separation by different successive smart spectrophotometric methods. Three methods have been applied for the determination of TR which has no peak maxima in its D0 profile. The first method for measuring TR was Constant Multiplication Spectrum Subtraction (CM-SS), where TR was measured at 210 nm in its zero-order curve after elimination of VR spectrum.
