ROLE OF NUTRITION IN HEALTH AND NUTRITIONAL CARE IN HOSPITALS IN MENOUFIA GOVERNORATE

Abstract
This research was carried out to evaluate the nutritive values of menus served in the hospitals and assess the nutritional status of diabetes mellitus, renal disease, atherosclerosis and hypertension patients at two hospitals (Shebin EI-Kom and University hospitals).
A random sample of two hundreds and twenty two of patients were chosen from two hospitals at the group age from 25 to50 years old. The design of the current study is to represent mral areas. Accordingly 130 patients were chosen from department of intemal medicine is Shebin EI-Kom Hospital, while 92 patients were only available from department of intemal medicine in University hospital.
Food items constituting each meal offered and home food for each patient were weighted and recorded for 24 hour recall. The nutritive value
of these diets were calculated using the food composition tables.
Regarding nutritive value of the hospital schedules (menus) and consumed diets were calculated. The nutritive values of food offered were
• analyzed.
Opinion of Patients about hospital menus served at both hospitals were studies. Anthropometric measurements for all patients include body weight, height, TSF, AC and AMC and calculated 13 BMI were determined,
Data collected were tabulated and statistically analyzed. The levels of significant used were P < 0.05, high significant P< 0.01 and very high significant P<0.001 .
