Evaluation of Hyperparathyroidism as l a Risk Factor of Cardiovascular Disease in Haemodialysis Patients
Gehad Hamid El Aidy;
Abstract
Background: The risk of CVD in patients with ESRD is far greater than in general population..
Objective: Is to evaluate the role of 2ry hyperparathyroidism as a cardiovascular risk factor in HD patients.
Methods: 42 HD patients were divided to 3 groups and subjected to the following: Serum calcium, phosphorus and PTH, complete lipid profile, Echocardiography and carotid duplex.
Results: It has been observed that there• was a significant positive correlation between serum PTH and TG, cholesterol, LDL, MBP, carotid IMT, LVM and IVS(D). Also there was a significant negative correlation between serum PTH and HDL & EF.
Conclusion: 2ry hyperparathyroidism is injurious factor to the heart and blood vessels which may contribute to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in HD patients.
