Correlation Between Rectal Snip And (IHA) In Diagnosis Of Intestinal Schistosomal Infection Before &After Antischistosomal Treatment

Abstract

Rectal smp biopsy technique is a good and accurate technique in diagnosis of schistosomiasis mansoni, however it may be risky in some liver diseased patients with bleeding tendency. The aim of this study is to correlate between rectal snip biopsy technique and indirect haemaglutination test for schistosomiasis (IHA) in diagnosis of schistosoma. mansoni infection before treatment and two months after treatment with praziquantel The study was carried out on 100 patients with active intestinal schistosomiasis with or without hepatosplenomegaly selected from out patient clinics of liver institute hospital, Menoufiya University. Their ages ranged form 15-70 years (mean age 39.08), standard deviation (12.72)•. It comprised 13 females and 87 males. Patients were divided into two groups. 1- Group (A) Consisted of 50 non cirrhotic bilharzia! patients 2- Group (B) Consisted of 50 of cirrhotic bilharzia!patients All patients had not taken antibilharzial drugs for the last 6 months. All patients were subjected to, thorough history taking and clinical examination. In addition to the following investigations:- ]- Urine and stool examination for bilharzia!ova by Kato thick smear technique. 2- Ultrasound examination of the abdomen. 3- Liver function tests including. - S. albumin and prothrompine time ALT, -AST, ALP. 4-Viral markers: HBS Ag, HBc Ab and anti-HCV. S-Liver biopsy for compensated patients in which prothrompine activity more than 60% 6- Rectal snips for all patients before and 2 months after treatment with praziquantel
