Characterization of L-glutaminase isolated from Camel Liver and Studying its Anticancer effect on Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell line

Youssef Ahmed Said Youssef;

Abstract

L-glutaminase (EC 3.5.1.2) which catalyses the hydrolytic
deamination of L-glutamine resulting in the production of
L-glutamic acid and ammonia. The enzyme belongs to
hydrolases superfamily with those amidohydrolases acting on
linear amides to catalyse hydrolysis of carbon-nitrogen nonpeptide
bonds. L-glutaminases are ubiquitous in the biological
world, they have been found in all three domains of life ranging
from bacteria to human. In mammalian cells, the enzyme
specific substrate – glutamine – plays an important role in the
nitrogen and carbon-skeleton exchange among different tissues.
L-glutamine is such physiologically important precursor for the
synthesis of various amino acids, proteins, fatty acids,
nucleotides, amino sugars and many other biologically
important molecules through a large number of metabolic
pathways in diverse cell types. The physiological role
of glutamine is due to either intact glutamine itself that may
directly contribute to a particular function or its hydrolysis
products, ammonium ion and glutamate, which are produced
