A PROSPECTIVE COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN FUNCTIONAL ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY AND MEDICAL TREATMENT IN CASES OF CHRONIC SINUSITIS

Abstract

Chronic sinusitis is a common health problem, which may be caused by either anatomic, immunologic, infectious causes leading to many symptoms such as headache, nasal obstruction, hyposmia and nasal discharge. In this study, 66 patients of chronic adult rhinosinusitis as defined by (AAO-HNS) by certain inclusion and exclusion criteria from the outpatient clinic of Suez Canal University Hospital were subjected to the followings: 1- Thorough history taking and physical examination. 2- Diagnostic endoscopy. 3- Plain radiography and CT scanning 4- Routine laboratory investigations. 5- ST revealed significant increase in both Groups. 6- AR showed decrease in MCA in both Groups. 7- Skin tests were positive in seven Patients. 8- Culture and sensitivity tests. 9- RSDI showed significant increase in both Groups. The patients were allocated by simple random method into two equal groups.
