EVALUATION OF THE NUTRITIONAl STATUS 0F SMOKERS lN RURSAL AND URBAN 0F MENOUFIA GOVERNORTE

Abstract

The present study was planned to evaluate the current nutritional status of the adult smokers in some rural and urban areas of Menoufia governorate. The studied sample included 125 adult smokers and 25 adult non-smokers (all males) from rural and urban ofMenoufia governorate. The checked up sample was subjected to the following studies:

1. Demographic studies.

2. Clinical studies: including current health complaints, malnutrition symptoms.

3. Anthropometric measurements.

4. Dietary studies: including some food habits, daily dietary intake. Food consumption pattern and relationship between dietary intakes and other effecting factors.

5. Smoking form: including age at starting smoking, number and time of daily cigarettes consumption and kind of cigarettes.

The results arrived at revealed the following:

I. Socioeconornical factors influencing the adult smokers:

A (18.8%) of rural were aged 35 to 45 years, compared with 14.8%

of urban, and 46.8% of rural were aged 45 to 55 years, compared with

50.8% of urban.

B. Results of marital status revealed that relatively high percent

(95.3%) of rural were married, compared with (93.4%) urban.
