THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS OF LEAVES OBTAINED FROM SOME COMMON TREES IN EGYPT ON THE EXPERIMENTAL RATS

Abstract


Diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia are dangerous diseases that threatening humankind throughout the world . The records of the ancient civi l ization of Egypt ,India, Japan ,Greece and Rome describe the symptoms of these diseases and suggested some recommendation for treatment .Recently, diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia are considered as major health problems at all ages in developing countries.
This study aimed to investigate the possible effect of some tree leaves as well as corn silk , widely available locally in Egypt on the weight gain, internal organs weight, food consumed and food efficiency ratio as calculated for Sprague Dawely rats and mainly to clearing their possible therapeutic impacts on the levels of serum glucose, serum lipid fractions, liver functions and kidney functions via feeding trails . The study involved the use of 4 types of tree leaves namely Azedaracht ( Azadirachta indica , beef wood(Casuarina equisitifolia),Mango(Mangifera indica), and Ficus(Ficus retusa)leaves as well as com cobs silk(Zea mays silk) .These leaves were obtained from trees & com plant ,and cleaned plus washing carefully . Then leaves were minced and sun dried.
Moisture , protein , fat , ash and fibers were determined in the tested tree leaves , carbohydrate was calculated by difference . The results were considered when formulating the rats diet . Fifty two Sprague - Dawely male albino rats Wistar Strain weighting about
