The Relation between Diabetes-Related Distress and Glycemic Control
Catherine George Kheir;
Abstract
I
ndividuals with diabetes can be seriously burdened by the chronic nature of this disease because of its demand for daily self-management, checking blood glucose, taking medications, hitting the gym, counting carbs, and cooking up healthful meals, which results in diabetes-related emotional distress and reduced quality of life.
Diabetes Distress is the understandable sense of burden or defeat that may occasionally punctuate the diabetic patient life. Also, it refers to the unique, often hidden emotional burdens and worries that are part of the spectrum of patient experience when man-aging a severe demanding chronic disease like diabetes.
