Abstract
Most studies on gastroenteritis have focused on viral and bacterial infections, while gastroenteritis where intestinal protozoan parasites may have played a role has not been well studied. The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasites among gastroenteritis patients.
This cross sectional study was conducted to detect the prevalence of protozoal infections in 100 children presented to pediatric hospital Ain Shams University from July 2018 to December 2018, and their relative data were recorded and estimated as risk for suscipitability to protozoal infections.
Based on the obtained results, prevalence of protozoal infections among gastroenteritis children was 29% using corposcopic detection method and this percentage even rose after using PCR for cryptosporidium detection
