Plasma Cytokeratin 18 Fragments Versus Fibroscan in Diagnosis & Prognosis of Non alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases
Noha Abd-Elhamid Mohamed Elmahdy;
Abstract
Most individuals are asymptomatic and are usually
discovered incidentally because of abnormal liver function tests
or hepatomegaly noted in unrelated medical conditions.
Imaging studies are often obtained during the evaluation
process, Ultrasonography, (CT), and magnetic resonance
images (MRI). Histological diagnosis by liver biopsy is sought
when assessment of severity is indicated.
Several studies have shown that NASH is associated with
increased apoptosis. The cytoskeletal system of the hepatocytes
contains intermediate filament proteins primarily made up of
Cytokeratin18 (CK18), which are important for the integrity
and mechanical stability of the hepatocytes. Induction of
apoptosis in liver disease results in early cleavage of CK1
