Effect of Steroid Therapy on BAL Cellular Pattern of COPD Patients

Abstract

This study was done to evaluate the effect of steroid therapy by its three forms

( J.V- oral- inhaler) on the cellular pattern of BAL COPD patient.

30 patients were included in this study and were divided into 3 groups .

* group I : I 0 patient received I.V steroids

* group ll : I 0 patient received oral steroids

* group III : I 0 patient received inhaler steroids

All patient were subjected to the following .

1- full history and thorough clinical examination

2- chest x-ray P-A view & lateral view .

3- BAL which was studied for cellularity .

4- The patient is received steroids for 15 days .

5- BAL was redone after steroid therapy and BAL .fluid was studied for cellular pattern . 6- Coi11parison was done between cellular pattern before & after steroids .

7- It was found that all forms of steroids affect the cellularity but inhaler 'I form has the greatest effect followed by intravenous form followed by

oral form.
