Summary
End-stage renal disease (ESRD) has emerged as a major public health problem around the world. In recent decades, several important advances have been made in the therapy of hemodialysis (HD) with guidelines to ensure the delivery of optimum care to HD patients. Infection is potentially preventable; yet, it remains the second most common cause of death in hemodialysis patients.

The study aimed to evaluate the impact of infection control measures as specified in guidelines on infection rate at hemodialysis unit: This has been achieved through the following specific objectives:
1- Assess staff's level of knowledge regarding the infection control measures as specified in the guidelines.
2- Assess staff’s level of practices regarding the application of infection control measures as specified in the guidelines.
3- Assess the infection rate among hemodialysis patients.
4- Revise, update and implement infection control guidelines based on needs assessment at hemodialysis unit.
