“Influence of different cavity designs and restorative protocols on fracture resistance and induced strain of weakened thermo-cycled maxillary premolar teeth: An in-Vitro study”

Radwa Nagy Abdel Wahed Ahmed;

Abstract

Restoring a weakened tooth can be challenging, Mesio-occlusal-distal
(MOD) cavities in premolars could complicated the treatment due to the
creation of elongated cusps and loss of marginal ridges, increasing its
susceptibility to fracture. Evolution of esthetic dentistry through technological
advances in restorative materials and adhesive systems has drawn great
attention to the usage of adhesive materials for conserving and reinforcing the
weakened teeth. Special concern should be taken on restoring MOD cavities,
as it has been reported that inadequate restorative therapy is the major factor
for failure of such cases.(127,126) Proper cavity preparation design, the
restorative material used, and the interactions between material, restored teeth
