MORPHOMETRIC AND ULTRASTRUCTURAL CHANGES OF TESTIS IN DIABETIC RATS

Omyma Ibrahim Zeedan;

Abstract

Diabetes is a complicated syndrome that affects the anatomical structure and function of many organs. Infertility is a problem that results from many factors including diabetes. The aim of this work is to evaluate . the effect of diabetes on the rat testis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
45 albino rats weighing from 200-250 gm were used in this study and were divided into two main groups.
Group I (Control non diabetic)
Composed of 15 rats kept without any treatment. They served as control for treated groups, all the time of experimental period ( three months).
Group II (Experimental diabetic)
Composed of 30 rat injected by alloxan to
'induc
e diabetes by single
intraperitoneal injection in dose 150 mg!kg. Animals were sacirfied at one, two and three months after induction of diabetes. SpeciJnens from the testis • were carefully dissected out and processed for paraffm blocks, morphomtric and electron microsopic studies.
HISTOLOGICAL EXAMINATION
Group I (control non diabetic)
'I
Control rats showed the well known histological picture of rat testis.
•.',
It consists of rounded to oval seminiferous tubules. Each tubule is bounded
by a basal lamina and lined by spermatogenic and Sertoli cells. In between the tubules there is a testicular intestitium containing fibroblasts, collagen, blood and lymphatic vessels together with clumps of Leydig cells.
