CYTOGENETIC STUDIES ON THE EFFECT Of SOME CHEMICAL POLLUTANTS ON A FRESH WATER FISH

Amani Abd El-Hamid Mahmoud;

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the response of the Oreochromis niloticus to the effect of carbamate herbicide "saturn", in regard to the frequency of chromosomal damage by using chromosomal aberration test of head kidney cells, the histopathological and some histochemical alterations of the liver as a target organ and also the chromosomes picture and liver disorder after the recovery period.

The study was carried out on 270 males and females Oreochromis niloticus .

Structural aberration:

•f The high percentage of chromosomal abnormalities observed in head kidney cells of males and females of Oreochromis niloticus were found clearly in the form of centromeric attenuation, chromatid gaps, chromatid breaks, deletions and fragmentation while the stickiness was the lowest value of aberrations, appeared. The high percentage of chromosomal abnormalities observed were found clearly in groups of males and females of Orcochromis niloticus treated with 2.55 mg/L at 7 days then
1.7 mg/L, also at 7 days generally the herbicid (saturn) increase the rate

.,..

of chromosomal abnormalities as dose increase and as time goes on especially at 7 days at which all types of aberrations reach to the maximum.
For recovery investigation rate of chromosomal abnormalities regain to its normal levels with the exception of deletion, fragmentation and stickiness at which the rate of abnormalities are stable and not repaired.
