ROLE OF MRI IN DIAGNOSIS OF ENDOMETRIAL CARCINOMA AND CERVICAL CARCINOMA

Abstract


This essay is to present the role of magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of the endometrial carcinoma and cancer cervix according to the available literature.



Tile available literatures were studied in the following order:

1- Embryonic development, histology, physiology, regional and cross sectional anatomy of the uterus and cervix.
2- Imaging techniques of the uterus.

3- MR imaging techniques of the pelvis and MRl artifacts.

4- MRI anatomy of the female pelvis.

5- Pathology of the endometrial carcinoma and cancer cervix.

6- MR1 in diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma and cancer cervix.



From this essay it was found that:

+ The endometrial carcinoma and cancer cefVlx are not uncommon malignancies in the female genital tract.



+ Different imaging modalities can be used for endometrial carcinoma and cancer cervix as plai n radiography, ultrasonography, hysterosalpingography, intravenous urography, computed tomography, venography, arteriography, lymphography, and magnetic resonance tmagmg.



+ MR I has man y ad vantages over ot her .im agin g modaliti e in the pel vis:

1- Direct multi planar im agin g.
