Evaluation of Surgical Craniotomy Using Computed Tomography And Magnetic Resonance Imaging Stereotactic Guidance In The Resection Of Intracerebral Space-Occupying Lesions

Abstract

The•tenn stereotaxis is derived from the Greek word stereos, which means three dimensional, and taxis means arrangement. With the invention of Ct scan and MRI the possibility of having a 30 image with tnmor localization was present.
The rapid evolution of computer hardware and software has propelled a crescendo of capability for the display of medical images. As the expense and complexity of image-processing workstation, the real time display of interactive localization device position on registered reformatted two-dimensional images has become possible. Further evolution of computing capabilities over the next decade promises to make this capability a reality for intra-operative use.
Stereotactic craniotomy planning and stereotactic tumor resection with fi.mctional mapping of eloquent areas of the brain are together a promising combination of surgery modalities for the expected outcome.
We must put in mind that localization of the lesion, selection of the approach, and three dimensional orientation of the lesion are the basics for tnmor surgery, these factors could bachieved best through stereotactic
