Abstract


ore needle biopsy is increasingly being used as a faster, less invasive, and less expensive alternative to surgical biopsy for the histologic assessment of breast lesion.
Tertiary assessment is crucial for proper interpretation of CNB. ‘Triple assessment’, comprises clinical examination, plus imaging (usually mammography and ultrasound), plus image-guided needle biopsy for histological examination if indicated.
The aim of this work is was to evaluate the concordance of CNB and excisional biopsy results of breast lesions at AL-Demerdash pathology lab and spot light on potential causes of disconcordance when present.
The material of this study included biopsies of 126 patients who underwent concomitant core needle biopsy and surgical excision biopsies for various breast lesions (from January 2015 till January 2019) in Al-Demerdash pathology lab at Ain shams university hospitals. CNB lacking subsequent excision specimen in our lab were excluded.
