USAMA RAGAA KHEDR;

Abstract

This cross sectional study was conducted to asses knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) towards epilepsy among school teachers in three governorates in Egypt (Damietta, Cairo and Bani Sweif) as representatives of school teachers in Egypt as a step to estimate the general public knowledge, attitude and practice of the Egyptian people towards epilepsy and to provide a base for international comparisons between our survey and other surveys done in other countries regarding KAP towards epilepsy.

The study was conducted on 1200 school teachers chosen from Damietta, Cairo and Bani Sweif governorates as representatives of school teachers in Egypt. We chose school teachers as our study subjects because of the common concerns of parents of epileptic children as regards their children's difficulty at schools.

Self administered questionnaire was prepared, containing items about demographic characteristics of surveyed teachers and 29 questions about knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) towards epilepsy, then the questionnaires were delivered to the school teachers in the 3 governorates.
