WATER ENEMA AS CONTRAST MATERIAL FOR COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY EXAMINATION OF THE RECTUM

Abstract
Diagnostic modalities to identify rectal pathology include, barium enema, ultrasongraphy either pelvic or transrectal, CT scanning and colonoscopy.
The aim of this work is to evaluate the tap water enema in the CT scan of the rectum and the sigmoid, without the use of orally administered positive contrast agents, and compare this technique to the standard CT in the local colorectal pathology.
This study was conducted on twenty patients presented with suspiciOus rectal lesions, referred to the Diagnostic Radiology department _ Alexandria University Hospitals and Damnhour Oncology Institute for evaluation of the rectal pathology.
All patients were subjected to the following:
1- Complete history taking, abdominal clinical exaniination. This is done to detect any palpable mass, enlargement of liver, presence of ascitis, or any other abdominal abnormality.
