Assessment of Gastric evacuation in peptic ulcer patients by ultrasound

Abstract
This study aimed at ultrasonographic assessment of gastric emptying in peptic ulcer patients before and after medical and/or surgical management.
It included 24 patients with endoscopically documented peptic ulcer uncomplicated by gastric outlet obstruction. They were subdivided into 2 groups equal in number, the 1St. group were medically managed by proton pump inhibitor therapy for 8 weeks with helicobacter pylori eradication if it was present, the 2nd. group were surgically managed by truncal vagotomy and posterior antipristaltic gastrojujenostomy with the shortest possible afferent limb (8-12cm).
Another 15 subjects matching to the patients in age and sex, and without history of dyspepsia or abdominal surgery were
considered the control group.
