RESISTING OF PUNCHING SHEAR IN FLAT SLABS USING DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES

Omer Mohammed Elhassan Elmobarak;

Abstract

Summary:

The Reinforced concrete flat slab is a structural system where the slab is supported on the column directly without using beams.
In this research, different techniques of are used to resist punching shear of reinforced concrete flat slabs are studied. These include the use of longitudinal reinforcement, transversal reinforcement and embedded steel beams. The slabs were analyzed using the finite element program ANSYS 17.2. The theoretical results were verified against experimental results available in the literature. An extensive parametric study was conducted to reach the optimum reinforcement technique and configuration to increase the punching shear strength of the slabs. The parameters considered include concrete compressive strength, dimensions and thickness of slab, horizontal flexural reinforcement, and vertical shear reinforcement in the form of stirrups, chairs, and embedded steel beams. The results were compared to their corresponding experimental results to verify the accuracy of the FE program. The results of the parametric study were compared to the recommendations of the Egyptian and international design building codes.
