Effect of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy on Wound Healing

Yehia Emad Barhouma El-sayed;

Abstract

N
egative pressure wound therapy has been commonly used to treat Pediatric patients, including neonates and prematures, and its use includes the traditional indications already established for adults and new proposals to treat congenital or age-specific diseases, including outpatient cases.
As there is no available Pediatric equipment some creativity may be needed to adapt apparatuses to children's use and extra care is needed to protect the delicate tissues of Pediatric patients.
Some aspects still require more research, including comparative research to define differential costs, indications and advantages of different dressings in children, specific indications and limits of NWTP in Pediatrics.
To summarize we can not make sound conclusions but only contentions because of the study design which is case series (prospective but shows efficacy of NPWT in pediatrics
