STUDY OF DIFFERENT MEDICAL METHODS OF TERMINATION OF 2nd TRIMESTER PREGNANCY 13-28 WEEK.
Dina Mohammed Habib;
Abstract
The present study was conducted at the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Assiut University hospital from the first of May 1999 to the first of May 2000.
We included 130 cases of pregnant women between 13-28 weeks of
gastation with clear indication for termination of their pregnancy.
This study is a randomized, prospective comparison between three drugs were put at the posterior fornix of the vagina and were used for
• cervical ripening to induce abortion in second trimester gestation. These
three drugs are : 1) Misoprostol, a prostaglandin E1 analogue "cytotec"
100 micrograms every 4 hours, with maximum 5 doses. 2) Dinoprostone, a prostaglandin E2 "prostin E2" 6 mg every 6 hours with maximum 4 doses and 3) Nitric oxide donor, Glyceryl trinitrate" angised" 0.5 mg every 4 hours, with maximum 5 doses.
We calculated a sample size of 50 cases to be recruited within misprostol and Glyceryl trinitrate induced groups for each and only 30 cases to be recruited within prostin E2 induced group. However, because
of limit of resources, we conducted the trial in 2 phases :
Phase I: Included a total of (90) cases where women were randomly
assigned to each of 3 groups [Misoprostol, a prostaglandin E I analogue "Cytotec"; Dinoprostone, a prostaglandin E2 "Prostin E2"; and Nitric oxide donor, Glyceryl trinitrate "Angised"].
Phase II: Included a total of (40) cases where randomization was restricted between 2 drugs only [Misoprostol, a prostaglandin El analogue "Cytotec", and Nitric oxide donor, Glyce1yl trinitrate "Angised"].
