Abstract


he aim of this studywas to asses the relationship between pulmonary function tests using spirometry and fasting plasma glucose and glycated haemoglobin among asymptomatic smokers.
This study was carried out on 300 subject divided into two groups as follows: Group A: Included 150 Smokers as a study group and group B: Included 150 non smokers as a control group.
The following measurements were recorded:
The Hb A1C level test, the FPG (fasting plasma glucose) level test and Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) using spirometry.
HbA1c and fasting blood sugar shows a significant increase in smokers than non smokers, the pulmonary function test FEV1%,FVC%,FEV1/FVC%,FEF 25- 75 show a significant decrease in smokers more than non smokers.
