STUDY OF EPIDEMIOLOGICAL FEATURES OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF TUMORS IN PATIENTS ATTENDING ONCOLOGY DEPARTEMENT OF MENOUFIA UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Abstract

The epidemiological features of tumors can be studied in a satisfactory manner only in countries in which all cancers occuring in a definite population are as completely recorded and classified as possible in a poulation-based cancer registries.

Aims of this work were to study the epidemiological features of different types of tumors in patients attending the Oncology Department of Menoufyia University Hospital at the year 2000.Also to develope a hospital- based cancer • registry for Oncology Department ofMenoufyia University Hospital.

Health records of cancer patients attending the Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine Department, Menoufyia University, were the primary source of data on cancer. A cancer registration form has been designed by the investigator to be used in collection of data on cancer from the original health records. This cancer registration form contains two main types of data:, the first is related to the • patient " age, sex, marital status,... etc), and the second is related to the tumor itself "type of the tumor, grade, metastasis... etc.)

A retrospective descriptive epidemiological study had been conducted upon patients attending the Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine Department, during the year2000.

Using the designed cancer registration form, a single hospital-based cancer registry for the nominated department had been carried out hopefully to be one day a nucleus of a population-based cancer registry for Menoufyia govemerate.
