Magdi G. Ragheb;

Abstract

Varicocele is a dilatation of scrotal portion of the pampiniform plexus of veins that affects about 15% of adults. It is the most correctable cause of male infertility and constitutes about (21% - 41%) of all causes of male infertility.

In this study, the morbid anatomy of the varicocele, the laparoscopic anatomy of the lower part of the abdomen, were described. The pathophysiology of the varicocele, its relation to the male infertility, the different diagnostic modalities and treatment was also discussed.

This study included 50 patients with primary varicocele having an indication for surgery.

They were divided into two groups ,each group consisted of 25 patients"

- The first group underwent varicocelectomy through the conventional open high ligation (Palomo operation).

- The second group underwent intraperitoneal laparoscopic varicocelectomy.

Laparoscopic varicocelectomy has the advantages of the ability to visualize the testicular artery and veins very clear, diagnosis of other abdominal pathology, feasibility of bilateral ligation of veins
