Evaluation of P 53 Tumour Suppressor Gene as a Prognostic Factor in Serum and Urine of bilharzial Bladder Canser Patients

Abstract


The present study has examined several approaches to the •

prognostic evaluation of bilharzial bladder cancer including

evaluation of different clinicopatholog]cal variables and mutant p53 in the serum and urine. The study was carried out
• on 51 cases of bladder cancer from the National Cancer
Institute, Cairo University. In the current study, bladder

tumors were predominant in males 80_4%. The age ranged between 18 and 80 years with the overall mean age of 53.6 years.

Clini.cal evaluation of the patients revealed that hematuria was the most common symptom at first presentation 43.I%.

Fourty-two 82-4% patients had schistosoma} infection, while 24 cases 47.2% had sec pathologic subtype, 22 cases
43.1% had TCC, 2 cases 3.9% had mixed carcinoma (SCC +

TCC), 2 cases 3.9% were adenocarcinoma and one case 1.9%

was undifferentiated carcinoma.

Eight cases 15,7% had grade I disease, 27 cases 52.9% had

grade II disease and 16 cases 31.4% had grade HI disease.
