Abstract
This work was carried out on the genitalia of slaughtered 343 native cows and 309 Egyptian buffaloes, for both morphometrical and histopathological studies. Moreover, blood smaples were collected for estrogen and progesterone assay. However, the reflections of the ovarian findings on the fallopian tubes and uteri were investigated.
The normal ovarian findings were recorded in 244 (71.14%) cows and 205 (66.35°/o) buffaloes. The incidences of ovaries in follicular phase were 42.2% and 66.8°;o and those in luteal phase
57.8o/o and 33.2°/o for cows and buffaloes, respectively.
The abnormal ovarian findings were 28.86°/o and 33.65°/o for cows and buffaloes, respectively. These included ovarian cysts
16.3°;o and 7.12%, ovarian inactivity 7.9% and 25.95% and ovarian neoplasms 4.66°;o and 2.58% for cows and buffaloes, respectively.
The ovarian cysts had two forms, cystic ovaries 7. 9°/o and
4.2°;o and cystic corpora lutea 8.4°/o and 2.9°;o for cows and buffaloes, respectively.
The ovarian inactivity had two forms, transitional 7.3% and
18.12°/o and complete 0.6o/o and 5.85% in cows and buffaloes, respectively.
The ovarian neoplams were differentiated into 11 and 2 granulosa cell tumors, 2 and 1 serous cystadenocarcinoma and
