Abstract

Laryngeal carcinoma is not uncommon tumor as it represents 2.2% of all cancers in men, 0.4 % in all cancers of females with peak at 60 years.

Laryngeal carcinoma is considered as one of the tumors, which has high rate of cure, may reach 85 % that may be explained by early complain of these patients in the form .of hoarseness of voice or dysphagia.

Recent researches proved the importance of angiogenesis for both tumor .growth and metastasis. So, angiogenesis has different clinical applications as m determining the risky patients for developing frank malignancy from a precancerous lesion, which has •high density of microvessels. Also, angiogenesis has a role in determining therape'utic guideline and hence the prognosis as the highly vascular tumors are more sensitive to radiotherapy. Also, we can use angiogenic promoters as BFGF and VEGF in serum for following up tumor to detect early recurrence or micrometastasis. Now the recent trends m treatment of malignant tumors are by the use of angiogenic .inhibitors.

Our study aim to determine the count ofmicrovessels in laryngeal carcinoma and to identify the relationship of this count with the different clinicopathologic parameters as age, sex of the patient, tumor type and its grade.
