Comparative study between using of quilting sutures vs. using of fibrin sealant in prevention of seroma after abdominoplasty
Therese Wagih Mickael Isaac;
Abstract
he abdomen is very important in maintaining healthy body contours. The main causes of abdominal contour deformities are obesity, flaccidity of the muscles, localized lipodystrophy and events of trauma or previous surgery that result in scars, hernias.
In recent years, abdominoplasty and related body contouring procedures have continued to increase in number both in aesthetic and in post– bariatric surgery.
Postoperative seroma formation remains the most frequent complication following an abdominoplasty procedure.
The aim of this study is to compare between the effectiveness of using quilting sutures with that of using fibrin glue spray in the incidence of abdominoplasty associated seroma formation.
In our comparative study, 20 patients underwent traditional abdominoplasty surgery. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group, group A, comprising of 10 patients, were performed using quilting sutures. The second group, group B; fibrin glue spray was used.
All patients were fitted with two abdominal drains. Postoperative seroma diagnosis was confirmed with the presence of clinical signs and symptoms along with the net exudate collected in the drains, also with anterior abdominal wall ultrasound between day 14 and 30.
