Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy Experience in 20 cases Treated at NCI

Zeiad Samir Sayed;

Abstract

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is rapidly becoming the surgical technique of choice for removal of diseased adrenal glands. Laparoscopy offers a shorter length of stay, a decrease in postoperative pain, a shorter time to return to preoperative activity level, and improved cosmesis and reduces morbidity in the patient. Purpose: To evaluate laparoscopic adrenalectomy. Patients and methods: A study done on 20 cases chosen non randomized from those suffering of adrenal diseases and treated at NCI with laparoscopic adrenalectomy, with male to female ratio 3:2, age of the patient varies between 2-56 years. Results: The highest incidence of adrenal diseases is the non functioning adenoma by
25%. The operative time varies between 90-190 minutes with mean 130 minutes. As regards operative complications; Conversion to open in 5 % and blood loss (180-600 cc) in 5 %.
4 Post operative complications showing no morbidity and no mortality. Conclusions: The laparoscopic approach has essentially

become the gold standard for nearly all benign tumors and has replaced open adrenalectomy.
