Perinatal risk factors in autistic spectrum disorder associated with EEG abnormalities

Rania Fouad El Sayed;

Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a common complex neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent deficits in social communication and interaction, restricted, repetition of behavior and interests.
Furthermore, it was stated that children with ASD have high incidence of abnormal encephalography (EEG) findings even with no seizures, together with affected intelligent quotient and low daily living skills and social skills.
Interestingly it was mentioned that the detection of epileptiform activities in children with ASD even if there is no seizure raises questions regarding the effect of pre and perinatal insults as risk factors for ASD with significant EEG abnormalities.
For all previous reasons we find it of a great magnitude and a wide field of interest, so this study was established and aiming for finding a better plan of prevention of more cases of ASD and confirming that early proper investigations, diagnosis and treatment of the child improves the prognosis and decreases the burden both on the patient and the family.
