Evaluation of the Effect of Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin (I-PRF) on Interdental Papilla Reconstruction Randomized Controlled Clinical Study

Abstract
A good and healthy aesthetic smile improves the self-confidence of a person. Reconstruction of lost interdental papilla is one of the major aesthetic challenges in periodontal plastic surgery. Black triangles generally seen in the anterior teeth are a point of aesthetic concern. Different nonsurgical and surgical approaches are proposed in the periodontal literature to provide satisfactory interdental papilla reconstruction & regeneration.
i-PRF is showing a promising future towards regeneration by using an injectable form of growth factors, taking advantage of slower and shorter centrifugation speeds, a higher presence of regenerative cells with higher concentrations of growth factors can be observed when compared to other formulations of PRF also it proves it’s success in facial rejuvenation such as lip & naso labial fold augmentation.
A randomized clinical study was performed to evaluate the effect of i-PRF on interdental papilla regeneration in comparison to interdental papilla augmentation by sub epithelial connective tissue graft using Han takie technique. Twenty four systemically healthy patients with Nordland and Tarnow class I and II papillary recession participated and completed the study. Parameters as distance from tip of the papilla to contact point, plaque index, gingival index and volumetric assessment were assessed at baseline. In i-PRF group the patient is injected four times with an interval of 15 days to maintain ideal aesthetic results.
